CHELENKO GEOPARK
Explore the past through the beauty of Aysén
The initiative to establish the first geopark in the General Carrera Province, Aysén Region, seeks to highlight the exceptional geodiversity of this territory, which includes Jurassic oceanic rocks, active faults, volcanoes, intense tectonic activity, glacial morphological basins, sites of international geological interest, and significant fossil outcrops. It also values the natural and cultural heritage, and the local communities that inhabit the region.
What is the Chelenko Geopark?
The Chelenko Geopark Project is a Public Good initiative by CORFO, funded by the Regional Government of Aysén. It is led by the Undersecretariat of Mining and was implemented by the National Service of Cultural Heritage. The initiative lays the groundwork for what may become the first geopark in Aysén to be integrated into the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network.
