This Monday, the activity “Geology for Everyone” took place, consisting of a series of lectures aimed at primary and secondary school students, as well as the general public, focused on the geological heritage of the Aysén region.
The topics presented during the series included “Where Rocks Come From” and “Why Hills Collapse: Understanding Mass Wasting Events”, led by Sernageomin geologist Constanza Jorquera; “Geology of Coyhaique: Tourism, Sports, and Ornamental Rocks”, presented by geologist Nicolás López; “Geopatrimony on the Road: A Journey into Aysén’s Past”, by Chelenko Geopark team sociologist Daniel González; and “Chiloé Gold Prospectors in the Ofqui Isthmus, Aysén Coast”, presented by history and heritage researcher Anahí Huenchan Quintana.
Juan Vásquez, Regional Ministerial Secretary of Mining, explained: “As part of Mining Month, celebrated every August 10, we organized the activity Geology for Everyone, highlighting that the Aysén Region is the geological capital of the country. This event allows us to showcase the mining history of Aysén. Thanks to the collaboration of the Municipality of Coyhaique, the Regional Government, Sernageomin, Chelenko Geopark, and the Society of History and Geography, we have been able to promote this day dedicated to discovering and appreciating the geological richness of our region.”
