GEOSITE

The Dunes River Paleodeltas (Paleodeltas del río Las Dunas)

The terraces of the Las Dunas River are a group of seven stepped terrace levels, interpreted as deposits left by the river at its mouth on Lake General Carrera. They are located in the terminal zone of the Las Dunas River, approximately 12 kilometers northeast of the town of Puerto Guadal.

This geosite offers valuable insight into how the climate in the Lake General Carrera area has changed over the past 23,000 years.
You can learn more about this fascinating geoheritage in the book “Geosites of the Aysén Region,” a scientific outreach publication developed by the Chelenko Geopark Project, available for free download from this page.
