Painted Hill (Cerro Pintado)

Did you know that other marble formations can be found in the General Carrera Province? One of them is Painted Hill, a geosite located east of Puerto Eulogio Sánchez, in the Río Müller area, approximately 1 kilometer above Lake General Carrera.
It’s a large mountain composed of marble and schist rocks (a type of metamorphic rock similar to those found at the Capilla de Mármol Nature Sanctuary), intersected by a swarm of dark-colored magmatic dikes.

This dike swarm caught the attention of Swiss geologist Arnold Heim, who in 1939 climbed Cerro Pintado and was the first to describe the geology of this striking mountain.
