Apidame Hill (Cerro Apidame)

It is located approximately 17 km south of the city of Chile Chico. As you approach this unusual rock, you’ll realize it is far too large to have been carried by the river and is the only one in the area with that specific mineral composition.

These large boulders, which lie in open plains with no clear relation to nearby rock formations, were named “erratic blocks” by 19th-century geologists.

What is an erratic block? Who left it here, and where did it come from? If you’d like to clarify these questions or ask new ones, feel free to write to us.
